The Tata Group

26th November 2008 , everyone remember that horrible day. ' The Taj ' a five star property in mumbai was caught in the terrorist attack.

Ratan Tata [chairman of Tata Group] did something that happily surprised everyone but that's what ' The Tata Group ' is.

Every hotel staff , every vendor [ Bhaji - pav , Vada - pav anything ] outside the hotel who were affected by the blast were offered compensation.
All loans and advances of staff members, irrespective of the amount - were waived off.

Damage to 'The Taj' was estimated at several thousands of Crores.

The education of children of affected people [46] to be taken up by Tata Group.
Free medical facilities for survivors and dependents at Tata Hospitals for the rest of their lives.

Ratan Tata himself visited affected employee families and offered compensation to them [several Lakhs rupees]. Settlement included full last salary for life as well.

Rs 10000 per month was also offered as compensation for policemen who were there to help at any blast site.
They founded a trust as well for the rebuilding lives of the families of the victims. ' The Taj Public Service Welfare Trust '

Harvard business school (HBS) said in their report that the actions taken by The Taj employees had not been prescribed in manuals but Guests are God to them.
11 Taj Mumbai employees , a third of the hotel's casualties - laid down their lives while helping 1200 to 1500 guests escape.

What The Tata Group did was extremely overwhelming yet ethically best for the society.
Mr Ratan Tata at the reopening ceremony of the hotel said ' we can be hurt , but we can not be knocked down. '

This is how Tata Group signifies what moral and ethical value means to them. Maybe that's why they are on the top and I think they should.

They say Tata is not a business it's a family. Indeed that's true.
